United Breweries slides to 52‑week low amid capacity expansion plans

United Breweries Limited (UBL) closed Tuesday at Rs 1,251.60, a 52‑week low, after a 3.1% decline during the trading session. The slump represents the sixth drop in nine consecutive sessions, intensifying worries among market participants.

The decline is the most pronounced single‑day fall since the start of 2026, when the stock fell 3.4% on 20 January. A 3.02% slide was observed on 19 May 2026. In the last nine sessions, six have ended in negative territory for the brewer.

The company is currently prioritising an increase in the premium‑beer mix and scaling up its production capabilities. CEO Vivek Gupta recently stated that premium‑beer revenue could account for 18‑20% of total sales by FY2030, up from roughly 11% today.

Growth in the premium segment is estimated at 20‑25% year‑on‑year, enhancing overall profitability. To capture this momentum, UBL has extended the distribution of Heineken Silver to additional states such as Kerala, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh.

Further supporting the growth narrative, UBL announced a Rs 110 crore investment for a new canning line at its Elora brewery in Maharashtra. The line, expected to be operational by September 2026, will produce 40,000 cans per hour, marking the first canning facility at the Elora location.

While the share price is under short‑term pressure, the strategic focus on premium products and expanded capacity is expected to underpin the company’s long‑term earnings trajectory.
