Trent's June earnings miss expectations, shares slide 11%
Mumbai, July 7 – Trent, the retail subsidiary of the Tata conglomerate, experienced a sharp sell‑off on Tuesday after reporting a June quarter that fell short of consensus estimates. The stock dropped 11.39 percent to ₹2,962. The company posted standalone revenue of ₹5,666 crore for the quarter, an increase from ₹4,781 crore a year earlier. At quarter‑end, Trent operated 1,312 stores, including 301 Westside branches, 982 Judio outlets and 29 lifestyle format venues. YoY revenue growth of roughly 19 percent lagged behind the 22‑23 percent forecast range, prompting brokerages to cite slower store‑opening momentum. Nevertheless, insiders believe the dip does not signal a fundamental weakness. Even after the steep decline, the share has recorded about a 9 percent gain in the last month. Over the past year it is down 19 percent, while delivering a strong 390 percent appreciation over the last five years. In the fiscal year ending March 2026, the retailer posted total revenue of ₹5,028 crore against expenses of ₹4,117 crore. For the January‑March quarter, operating profit was ₹911 crore and net profit after tax stood at ₹413 crore, delivering an 18 percent operating margin versus more than 15 percent a year earlier.
