Traffic and commerce at risk as protest planned for Dussehra weekend

Delhi authorities are bracing for a possible disruption in Connaught Place after a petition was filed to stop a protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on October 16. The demonstration is slated for Central Park, a location that draws heavy foot traffic, especially during the Dussehra weekend.

The petitioner, a local vendor, contends that the rally could lead to severe traffic congestion, hamper the movement of commuters, and force many businesses to close temporarily. Senior advocate Sachin Puri urged Acting Chief Justice Nitin W. Sambré to grant an interim stay, emphasizing the economic impact on shop owners and the inconvenience to the public.

The petition also calls for a broader ban on any unsanctioned gatherings in central Delhi, arguing that such events threaten the smooth functioning of the city’s commercial hub. The High Court will decide whether to issue an order before the scheduled protest.
