Tourism Contributes 5.22% to GDP and Supports 8.46 Crore Jobs, Says Government Data

The Ministry of Tourism’s fact sheet for 2025 reveals that the sector added 5.22% to India's gross domestic product and sustained employment for 8.46 crore people. These figures show that tourism is not limited to travel and hospitality; it is an engine for wider economic activity.

International arrivals generated Rs 2,76,831 crore in foreign‑exchange earnings, while domestic travel reached a historic 428.55 crore trips, reinforcing tourism’s role in the country’s fiscal health.
