Tokyo Meet Charts Roadmap for India-Japan Labour Ties

A high-level seminar in Tokyo has set the stage for a decade-long India-Japan workforce partnership aimed at easing Japan’s labour shortages while creating quality overseas opportunities for Indian youth. Hosted jointly by the Indian Embassy and ASEAN One Company Limited, the event drew 250 delegates from Japan’s leading companies, training institutes, and recruitment bodies. Key proposals included scaling up Japanese-language certification centres in India and forging direct links between Japanese enterprises and Indian skill institutions. Nishikawa, CEO of ASEAN One, laid out an ambitious vision of facilitating 50,000 worker placements over ten years. Speaking for the Indian government, Labour Secretary Vandana Gurnani stressed India’s readiness to serve as a trusted global talent supplier, backed by modern ITIs, digital skilling platforms, and apprenticeship programmes. Participants also explored cooperation in auto maintenance, hospitality, agriculture, and emerging green sectors, underlining the role of transparent digital systems in ensuring fair and efficient mobility.
