Solar and wind generation cross 100 GW milestone in July

The renewable sector achieved a historic milestone in July as solar and wind generation together exceeded 100 gigawatts for the first time. This achievement lifted the share of clean energy to 20 percent of India's total electricity production for the month, with a record output of 36.25 billion kilowatt‑hours, up 30 percent from the previous year. Analysts note that the daytime surge in solar power helped meet peak demand, while wind contributed significantly throughout the day. The rise in renewable capacity coincided with a reduction in coal's proportion to 65.7 percent, the lowest level in twelve months, though coal‑based plants still increased output due to strong overall demand and limited hydroelectric supply.
