SIP Investments Hit Record Rs 32,490 Crore in September 2026
New Delhi: Systematic investment plan (SIP) contributions in India reached an all-time high of Rs 32,490 crore in September 2026, according to a report released on Wednesday. The milestone came as the mutual fund industry's average AUM grew 14.1% year-on-year in the second quarter of FY27.
The industry's average AUM for the quarter stood at Rs 89.51 lakh crore, up 4.9% from the previous quarter. Monthly AUM, however, moved lower during the period, falling from Rs 87.08 lakh crore in August 2026 to Rs 82.64 lakh crore in September 2026 amid market declines.
Despite the September dip, AUM was 9.3% higher than in the same month a year earlier. The report attributed this sustained rise to growing retail participation and steady SIP inflows.
The quarter closed with net inflows of Rs 1.44 lakh crore, down from Rs 2.05 lakh crore in the previous quarter. Outflows from debt-oriented schemes and a large withdrawal in September 2026 were the main reasons for the decline.
Equity-oriented schemes attracted net inflows of Rs 92,293 crore during the quarter and continued to lead the industry's growth. Hybrid schemes posted slower inflows, while debt-oriented schemes recorded net outflows of Rs 5,853 crore.
The report said the steady expansion of the investor base and robust equity inflows support a positive long-term outlook for the industry, regardless of short-term market volatility.
Total mutual fund folios grew to 28.62 crore in September 2026. New SIP accounts increased by 63.26 lakh during the same month.
The report also found that the market share of the top ten asset management companies remained largely stable between the first and second quarters of FY27.
