SIP Culture Strengthens: Large-Caps Draw Bulk of April Flows

A detailed study released on Saturday shows that Indian households poured Rs 73,639 crore into mutual funds in April, comfortably ahead of the previous month’s tally. Large-cap schemes continued to command the lion’s share even though they lagged other categories on a yearly basis. The report highlights a decisive shift toward value stocks in the PSU and BFSI space, while technology names saw reduced buying. Total equity inflows touched Rs 25,931 crore as investors also returned to money-market and debt funds after March’s volatility. Dynamic asset-allocation funds recorded the sharpest turnaround, swinging from a Rs 15,242 crore redemption to a Rs 19,755 crore subscription. Within this group, arbitrage strategies alone gathered Rs 33,173 crore, largely on account of institutional repositioning. Despite softer returns, regular SIP contributions persisted across large-cap funds, underscoring growing investor maturity. The only factor strategy to post gains was the growth bucket, which added 2.2 percent in April and attracted Rs 1,022 crore of fresh money.
