Shift in Indian LNG Imports: Oman Tops List, US Slides Down

Energy analysts report that Oman has become India’s biggest LNG supplier for September, overtaking the United States. The Gulf nation delivered 585,000 tonnes, up 11.6% from the previous month and accounting for about 27% of India’s total LNG purchases. Nigeria supplied 351,000 tonnes, a 35% decline from August, while U.S. shipments dropped 59%, leaving the United States with a 16% market share. Qatar, once the leading source, fell to sixth place with only 94,000 tonnes after the March attack on its Ras Laffan industrial city disrupted production. The UAE contributed 311,000 tonnes and Angola 205,000 tonnes. Overall, India’s LNG imports decreased by 14%, from 2.5 million tonnes in August to 2.17 million tonnes in September.
