Self‑Reliant Hydrogen Train Set to Carry 2,600 Passengers Across Haryana

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav confirmed that the new hydrogen‑fuel‑cell train, built completely in India, will soon operate on the Jind‑Sonepat route. The 2,400 kW propulsion system powers ten coaches, offering seats for roughly 2,600 passengers—a scale unmatched by most hydrogen trains worldwide, which usually run two or three car sets.

The train embodies the "Atmanirbhar Bharat" mantra and serves as a flagship project under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing railway modernisation drive. Vaishnav added that the technology’s patents are owned by India and will be leveraged for future exports.

Alongside major junctions, the service will stop at smaller stations such as Jind City, Pandu Pindara Junction, Lalit Kheda Halt and several others, expanding connectivity while promoting sustainable transport.
