Sectoral fallout: Consumer durables, chemicals and realty lead declines

Among sectoral performers, the Nifty Consumer Durables, Nifty Chemicals and Nifty Realty indices registered the steepest falls, declining 2.71%, 2.31% and 2.00% respectively. Information technology, automobile and FMCG segments also posted losses of over 1%. In contrast, metals, pharmaceuticals and media stocks managed modest gains, providing a limited cushion to the overall market downturn.
