Sector Outlook: Real Estate and Banking Lead Gains, IT and Pharma Lag

Thursday’s trading session saw sectoral divergence shaping the market’s direction. The real‑estate index topped the board with a 2.58% rise, while media contributed a 1.74% uplift. Defence, private banks and PSU banks each posted modest gains of around half a percent.

Financial services, energy and broader services also moved higher but at a slower pace. In contrast, the information‑technology sector declined 0.85%, FMCG slipped 0.62%, automobile stocks fell 0.52%, consumer discretionary lost 0.50% and healthcare dropped 0.46%.

Stock‑specific movements reinforced the sector trend. Leaders such as HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and Tata Steel added to the upside, whereas heavyweights like Maruti Suzuki, UltraTech Cement and Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the decliners.

Commentators pointed to the resilience of small‑cap and mid‑cap indices as a sign that investors remain confident in India’s growth story, even as external factors – rising global yields and heightened geopolitical uncertainty – weigh on large‑cap sentiment.
