Sanmarg Group Expands Footprint With Tahalka Takeover
Sanmarg Private Limited has officially expanded its corporate portfolio by purchasing a 100 percent stake in Tahalka Dot Com Private Limited. The deal, which was concluded in October this year, signals a major strategic push for the Kolkata-based firm into the magazine and digital content industry.
The newly acquired title will see immediate structural changes. Production cycles will be accelerated from a fortnightly rhythm to a weekly publication schedule. Both legacy print runs and modern digital publishing channels will remain active, ensuring broad audience engagement across multiple mediums.
The acquisition encompasses the entirety of the publication’s asset base. This includes all physical printing equipment, digital archives, and intellectual property rights that were consolidated during the previous ownership phase in 2017. Editorial direction will now be steered by Arvind Chaturvedi, who has taken charge as Chief Editor.
The corporate timeline traces back to 2017, when a separate investor group previously secured full control of Tahalka. That earlier transaction included a facilitated departure for Tarun Tejpal and other minor shareholders. Following that period of transition, the magazine has operated without triggering any new legal disputes. Corporate statements have explicitly confirmed that Tejpal maintains no managerial or operational connection to the brand whatsoever.
Historically, Tejpal stepped down as editor following misconduct allegations, a scenario that culminated in legal convictions and sentencing. The present administration operates completely separate from his legacy, focusing exclusively on current journalistic mandates.
Legal continuity has been carefully managed in the agreement. Anant Media Private Limited, the former controlling entity, will assume full responsibility for defending all active litigation related to Tahalka. Additionally, the prior ownership group retains accountability for all historical corporate warranties and guarantees.
Subscriber relationships will remain seamless. All lifetime members are guaranteed continued access to their print and digital benefits, governed strictly by the original membership terms.
Sanmarg has publicly committed to rigorous compliance standards. The organization emphasized that all future publications will strictly follow Indian regulatory frameworks, media ethics, and government directives. As the largest Hindi media network in Eastern India, headquartered in Kolkata, Sanmarg intends to utilize this acquisition to deliver high-caliber, rule-compliant journalism to a nationwide readership.
