Russian Ties and Tourism Growth Spotlighted at BRICS Meeting

In a side conversation at the BRICS summit, Russian Embassy press secretary Petr Sizov highlighted India’s trajectory as the world’s fastest‑growing economy, noting its push to become the third largest global market. He mentioned that more than 110 Russian companies are taking part in the summit, underscoring a growing portfolio of Indo‑Russian projects.

Anupam Vohra, vice‑president of the Association of Hospitality Professionals Welfare, pointed out that India is witnessing an unprecedented surge in tourism, fueled by a robust economy and increasing foreign visitor numbers. He added that the BRICS alliance – comprising Brazil, South Africa, China, Egypt, Iran and the UAE – presents a strategic platform for expanding India’s hospitality sector.

The remarks also touched on the varied economic landscapes within BRICS. While China operates massive tourism initiatives, Russia contends with challenges stemming from its ongoing geopolitical conflict, limiting certain international activities. Nevertheless, the bloc collectively represents around 60 % of the world’s economic output and population, offering a broad base for cooperation.

Overall, the discussion signaled that both technology transfer and tourism development are key levers for India’s ambition to cement its global standing through BRICS cooperation.
