Regulator orders immediate shutdown of Sevan Sea Hospitality following severe hygiene violations

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered the immediate shutdown of Sevan Sea Hospitality Private Limited’s food‑service licence after a detailed inspection on 30 September uncovered grave hygiene and safety failures. Inspectors observed pools of water, foul smells and heavy grime across food‑preparation zones, creating a high risk of cross‑contamination. Several raw ingredients – including tomatoes, papaya, jaggery, cashew and capsicum – were found in a deteriorated condition, exhibiting clear signs of mould or rot. The kitchen continued to use burnt oil that had lost its functional quality. Storage arrangements broke several rules: vegetarian and non‑vegetarian items were stored together, meat preservation was inadequate, and condensation from the cold‑storage unit was dripping onto food supplies. Additional infractions comprised leaking refrigeration systems, excessive ice buildup, flaking plaster, insufficient cold‑room capacity, poor ventilation, dim lighting, and the presence of cockroaches and flies. Roughly 74 kg/l of non‑compliant food items were destroyed at the site. The establishment received a compliance rating of only 30 %, landing it in the “non‑compliance” bracket. The licence suspension is effective immediately, and the company is prohibited from conducting any food‑related business until further directives are issued.
