Record Freight Load Highlights Ahmedabad’s Operational Surge

The Ahmedabad railway division set a new benchmark on September 5 by loading 85 freight rakes and 3,580 wagons in a single day, the highest ever for the division. This eclipses the earlier record of 80 rakes and 3,525 wagons.

Key components of the load included 42 container rakes—half of them double‑stack—six automobile rakes, eight salt rakes and 17 fertilizer rakes. The accomplishment comes on the back of a strong August performance in which the division transported 4.4651 million tonnes of cargo and generated 6,313.1 crore rupees in freight revenue.

Operational statistics show an average of 218.84 train interchanges per day in August, a 2.5% rise over the previous year, while dedicated freight corridor points logged 100.81 interchanges daily, up 11.8%. The division also managed 365 long‑distance freight trains during the month.

Division Railway Manager Ved Prakash commended the combined effort of operational staff, commercial officers and DFCCIL personnel, emphasizing that the increased loading capacity will help ensure timely movement of essential goods and further lift railway freight earnings.
