RDSS Allocates ₹3,999 Crore for IT/OT Upgrades and ₹2,627 Crore for SCADA/DMS in 394 Cities

New Delhi, August 10 – The Ministry of Power disclosed that the Restructured Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) has earmarked ₹3,999 crore for a suite of IT/OT enhancements, including enterprise resource planning, unified billing, geographic information systems, and real‑time data acquisition.

In parallel, a dedicated fund of ₹2,627 crore has been approved for the deployment of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and DMS (Distribution Management System) across 394 urban centres. These technologies will provide advanced monitoring, fault detection, and automated control of distribution networks, significantly improving reliability and efficiency.

The broader RDSS package also includes ₹1.53 lakh crore for loss‑reduction infrastructure and ₹1.31 lakh crore for smart‑metering, as well as ₹8,608 crore for smart distribution projects in seven priority cities. Since the beginning of FY 2023, the scheme has disbursed a total of ₹47,124 crore, with ₹2,733 crore already allocated to smart‑metering.

The India Energy Stack (IES) initiative, launched alongside these investments, aims to create a universal digital platform for power sector data exchange, fostering seamless integration of the newly funded technologies.

Capacity‑building efforts for DISCOM personnel have received ₹100.9 crore, enabling the training of 14,853 staff members up to July 2026.
