RBI’s Latest Leadership Move: Ravi Shankar’s Appointment Strengthens Statistics Wing

In a recent leadership reshuffle, the Reserve Bank of India appointed Ravi Shankar as an Executive Director, with his tenure commencing on 1 July 2026. Shankar previously held the position of Advisor‑in‑Charge for the Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM).

A seasoned central‑banking statistician, Shankar’s professional journey spans more than thirty years, during which he has handled corporate and banking statistics, government securities, settlement systems, loan management, and a range of economic surveys. He has also played a role in several committees that shape macro‑economic statistical standards and policy direction.

Now overseeing DSIM as Executive Director, Shankar is expected to bring greater strategic focus and operational robustness to the department. The RBI expressed confidence that his extensive background will reinforce the quality of statistical inputs used in policy decisions.

Shankar earned a master’s degree in statistics from Banaras Hindu University, completed a diploma in Development Policy and Planning at the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi, and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance.
