RBI Data Shows $11.5 Billion Weekly Increase in Reserves

According to the latest figures from the Reserve Bank of India, the country’s foreign exchange reserves grew by $11.475 billion during the week that ended on August 28, reaching a record $740.803 billion. The surge represents the highest level ever recorded for India’s reserves.

The bulk of the increase came from foreign currency assets, which rose by $9.337 billion to $600.670 billion. These assets comprise major world currencies, all expressed in US‑dollar terms. Gold reserves added $2.191 billion, lifting the gold component to $116.409 billion.

Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) decreased by $43 million, settling at $18.810 billion, while the RBI’s reserve position slipped by $11 million to $4.914 billion.

Experts point to RBI‑driven schemes that have attracted more than $136 billion of foreign inflows as the key factor behind the robust growth, enhancing India’s ability to manage rupee volatility.
