Private Banking Shares Surge as Indian Markets Rise on Tuesday

Tuesday’s trading session saw Indian markets climb, driven by a sharp rally in private‑banking shares. The Sensex rose to 72,512, gaining 129 points (0.18%), and the Nifty advanced to 22,599, up 43 points (0.19%).

The Nifty Private Bank index surged approximately 1%, making it the top‑performing index of the day.

Broad‑based strength was evident across several sector indices, including Nifty Financial Services, Metal, FMCG, Consumer Durables, Energy, Real Estate, Commodities, Oil & Gas, India Defence and Consumption, all concluding in green.

Conversely, sectors such as Healthcare, IT, Auto, Pharma, PSU Bank and Services fell into the red.

Mid‑cap and small‑cap segments joined the upward move, with Nifty Smallcap 100 climbing 117 points (0.62%) to 19,267 and Nifty Midcap 100 gaining 212 points (0.46%) to 59,959.

Among the most active stocks were Trident, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, HUL, Indigo, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel, HDFC Bank, NTPC, HCLTech and L&T.

Experts warn that the bullish momentum may face challenges from persistent 10‑year U.S. Treasury yields around 5.3%, which could keep foreign institutional investors selling despite attractive valuations, while domestic institutional investors continue buying on steady inflows.

The positive trend was echoed in Asian markets—Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Jakarta—all closed higher, and the U.S. market ended Monday in the green, with the Dow up 0.18% and the Nasdaq gaining 1.05%.
