Positive Global Signals Lift Indian Equities, Broad Sector Advance

Mumbai, September 4 – Positive developments in world markets sparked a gentle rise in Indian shares during Friday’s early session. At 9:21 a.m., the Sensex recorded a decline of 466 points, or 0.61%, landing at 76,619, while the Nifty posted a 46‑point increase, a 0.20% gain, to end at 23,916.

Defence and IT stocks were the primary drivers. Nifty Defence surged 0.89% and Nifty IT climbed 0.56%, making them the top gainers among sectoral indices. Additional uplift was seen in Nifty Real Estate, Financial Services, Services, Private Bank, Infra, Oil & Gas and PSE, all trading in positive territory.

The opposite side of the market saw Nifty Pharma, Healthcare, Energy and Commodities slip into the red. Mid‑cap activity was mixed, with the Nifty Mid‑Cap 100 hovering around 63,237, while the Small‑Cap 100 rose 83 points (0.42%) to reach 20,134.

Among the Sensex constituents, gainers included Bajaj Finserv, Indigo, Trent, Infosys, TCS, Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, BEL, HDFC Bank, UltraTech Cement, Titan, Mahindra & Mahindra, ITC, State Bank of India, HCL Technologies, Larsen & Toubro, Power Grid and Tata Steel. Losers were Axis Bank, IIFL, Bharti Airtel and Hindustan Unilever.

International markets mirrored the upbeat tone. Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Seoul all finished higher. In the United States, the Dow Jones rose 1.18% and the Nasdaq Technology Index gained 1.40%.

Experts note that despite strong domestic fundamentals – a robust 7.8% GDP growth and rising private investment – the increase in bond yields across the US, Europe, the UK and Japan presents a cautionary signal for global investors.
