PhonePe Founder Hails Modi as Driving Force Behind Startup Growth

Speaking on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Sameer Nigrani, founder and chief executive of PhonePe, praised the leader’s role in shaping India’s startup ecosystem.

He traced a clear link between the government’s Digital India initiatives and the surge of entrepreneurial activity among youth.

Nigrani highlighted how policy support, open banking reforms and investments in digital infrastructure have created a robust foundation for new businesses.

According to him, the ecosystem now offers more than a dozen fintech solutions that reach the masses, driving financial inclusion and raising living standards.

He also clarified that the upcoming UPI MDR will not impose any cost on end‑users; only merchants processing payments above ₹2,000 will incur the 0.4% fee.

The PhonePe chief concluded by thanking the Prime Minister for his personal commitment to digital transformation, which continues to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs across the country.
