Pakistan Introduces Fuel Subsidy for Motorbikes and Small Cars to Offset Price Surge

To blunt the impact of higher diesel and petrol rates on ordinary commuters, Pakistan has launched a targeted fuel subsidy scheme for two‑wheelers, rickshaws and sub‑compact cars. Beginning Wednesday, owners of eligible vehicles will receive a credit of 100 Pakistani rupees per litre of fuel purchased, subject to a monthly ceiling set by the ministry.

The subsidy is paid directly to fuel stations, which will apply the discount at the pump. The government expects the assistance to ease household budgets and maintain mobility for small‑scale transport operators, who form a vital part of the country's informal economy.

Officials say the program will be reviewed each month to ensure it stays within fiscal limits while delivering relief to the most vulnerable road users.
