Output Producer Price Index Climbs to 112.5 in September Amid Broad Cost Pressures

The Output Producer Price Index (OPPI) for September 2026 reached 112.5, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, marking a clear escalation from the August level of 110.8. The rise runs parallel to the overall Wholesale Price Index, which registered 11.39 percent inflation across the month.

The data show that cost pressures are pervasive, affecting agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining and manufacturing sectors alike. While the electricity segment showed a relatively modest increase, the remaining sectors experienced noticeable price upticks.

In the broader wholesale market, primary commodities grew 8.67 percent, fuel and energy surged 25.85 percent, and manufactured items rose 9.76 percent year over year. These figures all outpace their August counterparts, indicating that the inflationary impulse is gaining momentum.

Key contributors to the surge include higher prices for mineral oil, food grains, crude petroleum and natural gas, coal, basic metals, chemicals, textiles, rubber and plastics, and electrical equipment. The primary goods index climbed to 120.3, the fuel & energy index to 110.5, and the manufactured goods index to 110.2.

The food sub‑index within the WPI also accelerated, moving to an 8.66 percent annual rise from 7.05 percent in August, a sign that food‑related cost pressures are persisting.

Alongside the OPPI, the experimental Input Producer Price Index (IPPI) posted a level of 106.1 for September, reflecting continued strain on raw‑material costs for producers.

July 2026 revised figures kept the WPI at 110.0 and the OPPI at 109.9, with July's final inflation rate remaining at 9.78 percent, underscoring the consistent upward trend in wholesale price dynamics.
