Around One Million Consumers to Benefit from Tripura's Power Bill Relief

Tripura’s government has taken a decisive step to ease the financial strain caused by rising power bills. Chief Minister Manik Saha stated that the cabinet will fully subsidise the increased electricity rates approved by the Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission, effective from May 2026. The move will cover about ten lakh consumers across the state – from households to small, medium and large businesses, traders, farmers and industrial units. Railway traction users are excluded, while defence establishments, railways, All India Radio and Doordarshan will receive a 15% state contribution toward the higher rates. Consumers who have already paid the inflated charges will be reimbursed, with the excess amount being adjusted in three equal phases during September, October and November. The electricity minister earlier announced a total subsidy package of ₹194.70 crore for the year, which includes ₹77.57 crore already disbursed. The decision follows a period without any additional tariff imposition from 2019 to 2023.
