Ghee Sales Surge Across Kerala Regions Amid Onam

Ghee, an essential ingredient for Onam delicacies such as sadhya, experienced robust demand during the festival period. Between August 1 and 25, the Thiruvananthapuram union sold 297.85 tonnes of ghee. Ernakulam’s figures stood at 172.58 tonnes, while the Malabar union recorded the highest volume with 358.35 tonnes sold.

The increase in ghee sales mirrors the broader consumer pattern of stocking up on staple ingredients for elaborate Onam feasts. Retailers reported long queues and rapid turnover, reflecting the cultural importance of ghee in traditional Kerala cuisine.
