ODOP Ecosystem Strengthened as Government Links GI Products to Digital Platforms

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to weave Geographical Indication (GI) products into India’s digital commerce fabric. The MoU proposes the integration of GI producers into the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and the Government e‑Marketplace (GeM), offering a seamless online marketplace for certified goods. By establishing a “India GI” banner, the two ministries will also co‑organise a dedicated GI pavilion at national and international trade events, providing visibility to regional specialties. The agreement aligns DPCIIT’s IP‑related responsibilities with MSME’s enterprise‑development objectives, facilitating capacity building, digital empowerment and broader market outreach for artisans, weavers and small‑scale manufacturers. The move is expected to reinforce the One District One Product (ODOP) ecosystem and create new revenue streams for thousands of micro‑enterprises.
