Odisha Eyes Major Industrial Shift After India Chem 2026 Deals

Odisha has signed nine MoUs and four investment proposals during India Chem 2026, bringing in proposed investments worth ₹53,893.51 crore, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Friday. The package is expected to create around 20,210 jobs across the state.

Majhi made the announcement after returning to Bhubaneswar on Friday evening. He had travelled to Mumbai for a two-day visit and joined the Chemical and Petrochemical Conclave on October 22 and 23 as part of the Team Odisha delegation.

The Chief Minister said the state and the Union government, along with FICCI, have agreed that Odisha will host the conclave next year. He added that 'Odisha Chem 2027' will be organised in October 2027.

During the event, Majhi conducted 25 one-to-one meetings with major business houses. He held discussions with representatives of Posco India, JSW and L&T, and also engaged with companies from the United States and the European Union.

A key MoU was signed with NLC India Limited, a Navratna central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Coal. The agreement relates to a proposed investment of ₹36,763.51 crore in the chemical and energy sectors.

According to Majhi, these meetings helped the government understand investors' needs and identify the facilities and opportunities that Odisha can offer. He said the discussions improved mutual understanding and that the companies have shown deep interest in investing in the state.

The Chief Minister acknowledged the strong support extended by Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers J.P. Nadda in making these corporate discussions possible.

Majhi said the conclave has helped the state move closer to its goal of shifting from a metal-based economy to a chemical-based one. He outlined plans to develop an integrated industrial ecosystem spanning metals, metal downstream, chemicals, petrochemicals and plastics. He said this would position Odisha as a strong pillar in realising the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
