Nirmala Sitharaman Responds to Rahul Gandhi's Tata Allegations
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has criticised Rahul Gandhi over his allegations that Tata has been criminally destroyed. Speaking on Wednesday, she said the Leader of the Opposition should avoid politicising every issue.
Sitharaman also said that labelling business and legal matters as 'criminal' without due thought is not acceptable. Her comments came in a post on X, where she quoted Gandhi's remarks directly.
She questioned Gandhi's repeated criticism of India's industrial successes and its entrepreneurs. Sitharaman asked whether he was now trying to rope in business leaders to fuel distrust and hatred.
The finance minister also recalled that his party had, for decades, suppressed the spirit of Indian entrepreneurs under the 'License-Quota Raj'. She said this had pushed crores of Indians into poverty.
Highlighting the government's efforts to promote trade, she said the Modi government sees industry as a creator of jobs and a driver of economic growth. Its policies, she added, are meant to enable businesses, support industries and encourage investment.
Sitharaman stressed that political parties, leaders, governments and institutions all share responsibility for supporting industries, empowering farmers and securing the future of the youth. Rather than making unfounded accusations to advance narrow political aims, she said, constructive participation matters more.
She further stated, "The Constitution of India guarantees justice to all citizens, and our respected courts are responsible for upholding it. History shows how you, your party and prime ministers associated with your party have badly insulted the judiciary. So, Rahul ji, please avoid seeing ghosts everywhere."
Rahul Gandhi had earlier posted that Tata was being criminally destroyed and that no business leader had the courage to say a word. He asked how long they would remain silent, and whether it would be until they were fully captured.
He had also said Indian business was not a toy of Modi and Shah, that the opposition lacked courage, and that his side would ensure justice for these crimes.
