Mizoram’s Agriculture Ministry Announces Major Boost to Ginger Production

Aizawl, August 29 – Mizoram’s Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister, P.C. Vanlalruata, unveiled a strategic plan to increase ginger cultivation after the state earned the "Ginger Capital" label from NITI Aayog in 2025. The award recognized Mizoram’s large‑scale output and its expanding share in the national ginger sector.

To capitalize on this momentum, the state has initiated a series of measures: financial incentives for ginger growers, improved seed distribution, and the development of processing hubs. The minister also launched a state‑run food‑oil processing plant in the Falcone area, underscoring the government’s focus on adding value to agricultural produce, including sunflower, sesame, lentils, and mustard.

The facility, funded under the National Agricultural Development Scheme (RKVI‑DPR) for the fiscal year 2023‑24, will process assorted oilseed crops and is managed by the Aizawl City Oilseed Growers and Processing Cooperative Society Ltd. The minister stressed that continued backing from RKVI and other schemes will strengthen farmer cooperatives, enhance value‑addition for ginger, and provide reliable, higher‑income opportunities for the rural community.
