Meta to Provide Details on Content Moderation After Instagram Child Abuse Ads Controversy
In response to allegations that Instagram hosted advertisements linked to child sexual exploitation, the Indian government’s IT ministry has asked Meta to submit a comprehensive report on its moderation practices. The report must outline the processes used to review ad content, the AI‑driven detection systems, and the human review teams that intervene in high‑risk cases.
The ministry seeks clarification on how the offending ads bypassed existing filters and what corrective actions have been taken since their discovery. It also wants to know whether Meta has introduced new safeguards to prevent future violations and how it coordinates with Indian law‑enforcement agencies.
Meta has yet to comment publicly. The request aligns with a broader regulatory push, highlighted by the government’s recent decision to delay the launch of WhatsApp’s optional username feature pending further security assessments.
