Manufacturing Sub‑Groups Show Broad Positive Trend in June 2026

NEW DELHI – A detailed look at the June 2026 Industrial Production Index (IPI) reveals that 19 out of 23 manufacturing sub‑groups posted growth over the same month in 2025. Overall manufacturing expanded by 7.8 percent, contributing significantly to the IPI’s 7.3 percent year‑on‑year rise.

The most dynamic sub‑group was electrical equipment, which surged 34 percent. Motor vehicles, trailers and semi‑trailers followed with a 17.5 percent increase, and food‑product manufacturing grew by 10.8 percent, driven by higher production of tea, non‑basmati rice and diverse starches.

Beyond manufacturing, the electricity and gas supply sector led with a 10.6 percent rise, while mining and quarrying grew modestly at 1 percent. Water supply, sewerage and waste‑management posted a 6.1 percent gain.

The IPI for June 2026 rose to 123.1 from 114.7 a year earlier. Sector‑level IPI readings were 110.0 for mining and quarrying, 123.3 for manufacturing, 131.0 for electricity and gas, and 145.7 for water, sewerage and waste‑management.

The rapid June estimate and the final revision for May were based on weighted response rates of 86.7 percent and 93.1 percent respectively. The forthcoming July 2026 IPI figures will be made public on 28 August 2026.
