Madhya Pradesh Eyes Chip Hub Growth with Rs 9,625 Cr Projects
Madhya Pradesh is taking steps to become a larger player in India's semiconductor and electronics sectors. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Friday that the state has received investment proposals of about Rs 5,800 crore, which could lead to more than 10,000 jobs.
The outcomes stem from investor meetings held during the Madhya Pradesh Semiconductor Summit 2026 in Indore. The government used the event to showcase its plans for chip design, semiconductor manufacturing, advanced packaging and other emerging technologies.
At the two-day summit, held at the Brilliant Convention Centre, Yadav said the Covid-19 pandemic had exposed the importance of semiconductors for the economy and national security. He stressed that India must strengthen its domestic base in the sector.
More than 1,000 delegates took part, among them representatives from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Sweden. Participants discussed investment, technology development and the building of a skilled workforce.
Yadav noted that the state has introduced over 25 policies in the past two and a half years to bring in capital. Proposals worth nearly Rs 34 lakh crore have been received through the Global Investors Summit and other efforts, with more than 30 per cent moving into implementation.
He added that Madhya Pradesh's power generation capacity has grown from 5,000 MW to 32,000 MW. Investors, he said, can expect swift approvals, a single-window clearance system and uninterrupted electricity supply.
Welcoming companies to the state, Yadav said that anyone who comes to Madhya Pradesh becomes part of its growth story for good.
The government has announced a Semiconductor Centre of Excellence for chip design, VLSI, research, prototyping and skilling. A separate centre of excellence for photonics and quantum technology has also been announced.
Five companies received letters of intent for land. Together, their projects are expected to attract Rs 9,625 crore in investment and create more than 4,450 direct jobs. These include a 50 MW hyperscale data centre in Gwalior, a lithium-cell manufacturing unit in Bhopal, and electronics facilities in Indore and Bhopal.
Seven companies were offered office space in Indore's Electronics Complex, with more than 1,280 jobs expected from these facilities.
The state has also signed MoUs with five institutions to support skill development, investment promotion and industry cooperation. Partners include the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India, SEMI India and the Semiconductor Laboratory, Mohali.
