Local Component Manufacturing Takes Off Under Revised Scheme
Industry representatives say the revised mobile phone manufacturing framework is already delivering tangible results on the ground. Of the 106 ECMS projects cleared, 38 have started production while another 16 are in late‑stage construction. The scheme’s emphasis on local sourcing and design excellence is reflected in the approval of 31 fresh projects with a projected outlay of 6,844 crore rupees. These initiatives will see the first domestic production runs of key electronic parts – from filters and coils to speakers – as well as raw materials such as acetylene black and electrolyte additives. Stakeholders believe this will lift India from a pure assembly destination to a comprehensive electronics manufacturing ecosystem, fostering home‑grown IP, design talent and supply‑chain resilience.
