L&T Wins Major Automated People Mover Deal Worth ₹5,000 Crore
In a significant win for its transportation infrastructure division, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) secured a ₹5,000‑crore contract to design, construct and commission an Automated People Mover (APM) system at Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport.
The agreement, executed jointly with Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, assigns L&T full responsibility for the turn‑key delivery, encompassing civil works, equipment supply, system integration, testing, commissioning and hand‑over for commercial operation.
Key components of the contract are the guideway, DC traction substations, power distribution, signalling, telecommunication links, onboard communication, platform screen doors and depot equipment. The project forms part of a multi‑phase expansion that aims to make Al Maktoum the world’s largest airport by capacity, targeting 260 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo each year.
Company executives highlighted that the collaboration combines L&T’s engineering design expertise with MHI’s proven APM technology, ensuring high standards of safety and quality throughout the project lifecycle.
