In a significant push for the fisheries sector, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh has laid out an ambitious roadmap to make Mizoram a fish-exporting state. During his Sunday visit to Aizawl, Singh met Chief Minister Lalduhoma and emphasized that the central government wants Mizoram to move beyond self-reliance and start supplying fish to other regions and countries. Key projects under consideration include a modern wholesale fish market, an integrated aqua park, and the scaling up of integrated paddy-fish farming. These initiatives will be supported through the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, which will focus on constructing new ponds, reviving old ones, and providing better training and inputs to fish farmers. The minister also addressed dairy development, agreeing to consider a revised funding ratio of 90:10 for milk processing plants. He further assured that proposals for more mobile veterinary units and transport subsidies on animal feed would be examined, while stressing the need for local feed production to reduce dependency. Singh urged the state government to prepare detailed project reports so Mizoram can fully leverage upcoming central assistance and emerge as a model fisheries state.
