Labour Minister Thanks Prime Minister for EPFO Salary Limit Upgrade

On September 16, Labour and Employment Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya used his X account to salute Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the cabinet’s approval to lift the EPFO salary limit to ₹25,000 a month. The minister emphasized that the step will provide a "broad armour" of social security to the nation’s workers and speed up the pace of formal employment.

He noted that the new provision will become operational on the auspicious day of World Craftsmen’s Day and Service Day, underscoring the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare. The announcement follows an earlier statement that projected over 5.1 million additional employees gaining access to the Provident Fund, Pension Scheme and Deposit‑Linked Insurance.

The previous wage ceiling, unchanged since 2004 and last altered in 2014, no longer matched the rising cost of living and the higher minimum wages implemented across many Indian states. By aligning the EPFO threshold with contemporary salary structures, the government aims to reduce the number of workers left out of the social security net.
