Jyotiraditya Scindia Pushes Sikkim Tourism, Sports Infra in Namchi

In a significant push for Sikkim's growth, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday reviewed multiple flagship projects in Namchi district, prioritizing tourism infrastructure, sports facilities, education, and tea industry enhancements. Kicking off with an on-site visit to the Kangchenjunga Sikkim State University at Tarku, Scindia gained insights into this landmark 28-acre initiative funded by the North Eastern Council. Set to house more than 1,500 students post-completion, the campus is progressing steadily with administrative and core facilities. The minister advocated for eco-friendly designs, urging greater incorporation of green spaces to preserve Sikkim's biodiversity. His recommendations aim to make the university a model of sustainable higher education in the hills. Shifting gears, Scindia's itinerary included the iconic Temi Tea Estate, where he interacted with laborers in fluent Nepali. He assessed processing units, export strategies, and the adoption of LPG for eco-conscious manufacturing to curb emissions. Plans for a GI tag were spotlighted as a game-changer for Temi tea's market reach. Tourism took center stage next at the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco Tourism. Scindia evaluated the Namchi-Temi-Ravangla circuit, a ministry-backed venture to draw adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. The day peaked at Baichung Stadium, hosting Sikkim Premier League semi-finals. Scindia championed PM Modi's blueprint for a sports-powered Northeast, stressing world-class stadiums and training centers. Wrapping up, he inspected the Bhulay Dunga Skywalk – a Rs 220 crore marvel under PM's development scheme. At 3,200 meters, its 240-meter glass pathway eyes the record as the planet's highest skywalk, set to redefine Sikkim's tourism landscape. Scindia's visit reinforces Delhi's resolve to accelerate Northeast's transformation through targeted investments.
