ITR‑5 filing made easier with Excel utility released for FY 2026‑27

Delhi, July 8 – Tax authorities have added the Excel utility for ITR‑5 returns for the assessment year 2026‑27 to the Income Tax e‑filing portal.

The ITR‑5 form is specifically designed for entities such as partnership firms, LLPs, associations of persons, bodies of individuals, artificial juridical persons, local authorities, cooperative societies, societies registered under state laws, and certain trusts and investment funds that are exempt from filing ITR‑7.

The spreadsheet is a mandatory component; filing cannot be completed without it. The department communicated the availability of the file via its official X account, directing users to download it from the portal.

Earlier this year the department released Excel utilities for other ITR forms in a staggered fashion: ITR‑1 and ITR‑4 utilities on May 15, online filing for ITR‑2 on May 27, and both online filing and an Excel utility for ITR‑3 on June 19. The ITR‑5 Excel tool is the most recent addition, aimed at simplifying the filing process for eligible organizations.
