IndiGo, AAHL Announce Gradual Shift of Flights to Navi Mumbai

IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) have announced a gradual expansion of international flights at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), with the airline set to increase operations there from February 2027.

The announcement, made on Sunday, outlines plans to move 12 international flights that currently operate daily from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). The current CSMIA services to Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta will all be transferred.

IndiGo will also begin one additional daily service to Kathmandu. Between February and July 2027, the airline's international network from NMIA will grow to 12 destinations.

Alongside the international routes, IndiGo will shift essential domestic connections from CSMIA to NMIA. This is intended to feed the international services and give passengers seamless onward journeys.

AAHL has built the infrastructure needed at NMIA to make transfers between IndiGo's international and domestic operations simple and efficient. The step is the latest in IndiGo's strategy to develop NMIA as a long-term international hub.

The capacity change at CSMIA serves two further goals. It will open space for IndiGo's international expansion in 2027, allowing its A320/321 and A321XLR aircraft to serve new routes across Asia, Africa and Europe. It will also help the airline meet its portion of the capacity reduction required for the CSMIA Terminal 1 redevelopment, which is due by 2030.

IndiGo and AAHL will keep working together to ensure that any service adjustments needed for the Terminal 1 project can be absorbed at CSMIA Terminal 2.

AAHL said the phased transition aims to rebalance capacity across Mumbai's dual airport system in a transparent, fair and proportionate manner, taking into account each airline's presence at CSMIA. The companies believe this approach will allow an orderly transition for all carriers, reduce operational disruption and help airlines and passengers plan more effectively.

IndiGo will announce the final dates for moving services to NMIA and launching new services from CSMIA after project coordination is completed and necessary operational approvals are secured.

The phased shift is expected to substantially improve connectivity from NMIA while further broadening international access from CSMIA. Travellers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will gain better access to both airports, along with wider domestic and international travel options.
