Parliament heard a compelling update on Friday from Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. L. Murugan, detailing how the WAVES platform is revolutionizing India’s media landscape. By channeling creative capital into employment and international trade, WAVES is making ‘Create in India, Create for the World’ a reality.
Responding in the Rajya Sabha, the minister outlined WAVES as the government’s strategic vision to establish India as a global content hub. The conference bridged Indian filmmakers, producers, and innovators with global stakeholders from more than 100 nations, including OTT leaders and tech pioneers, creating a vibrant ecosystem for collaboration.
At its heart are the Create in India Challenges, engaging talents across animation, gaming, AR/VR, and music through 33 nationwide contests. Over 100,000 creators registered, with victors earning spots at world-class festivals in cities like Melbourne, Toronto, and Cannes. Domestic platforms such as IndiaJoy and IFFI Goa further amplify these opportunities, positioning CIC as a powerhouse for talent scouting and IP generation.
Enter WAVEX, the dedicated incubator nurturing media startups. Currently supporting 34 entities and eyeing 100-plus more, it’s witnessing rapid traction. Ten startups from specialized challenges are in government pilots, bolstered by alliances with T-Hub Hyderabad and IIT Delhi’s FITT. Future expansions target institutions like FTII and IIMC nationwide.
To supercharge skills and entrepreneurship, WAVEX is scaling incubation hubs while global masterclasses sharpen creative edges. The WAVES Market’s international focus promises lasting careers for Indian creators and a surge in AV exports, marking a new era for India’s creative economy.
