India's Tamil Nadu Eyes British Partnerships in September Trip
Chennai, 2 Sept – Tamil Nadu’s chief minister, C. Joseph Vijay, is set to travel to the United Kingdom from September 10 to 16, a move designed to deepen the state’s economic links with Britain. The journey is a cornerstone of the state’s strategy to lure foreign direct investment and broaden collaboration with multinational enterprises.
The delegation will meet industry leaders, senior executives and investors to present Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure strengths, its educated labour force, and a conducive ecosystem for manufacturing and services. A senior government officer confirmed that preparations for the UK itinerary are progressing.
Negotiations are expected to culminate in the signing of MOUs with firms looking to establish or expand operations in the state. While the full programme is still being finalised, officials indicated that other destinations could be added depending on the availability of investors and official timetables.
The timing aligns with the administration’s claim of securing more than ₹1 lakh crore in investment commitments within its first 100 days, a feat underscored by a recent investors’ conclave in Chennai where 97 MOUs worth ₹67,452 crore were inked.
Through this high‑profile outreach, the CM hopes to convert pledged capital into operational projects, bolstering Tamil Nadu’s manufacturing, technology and service sectors amid heightened competition from neighbouring states.
