Adani Ports has inked a pivotal deal with one of France’s premier ports, Marseille Fos, to turbocharge trade links across continents. This Wednesday’s announcement focuses on collaborative advancements in port technology, trade facilitation, green energy shifts, and the vital India-Europe connectivity via the IMEC corridor.
Central to the MoU is the push for better synergy among major ports on the IMEC path, including the formation of an exclusive IMEC Ports Club. This initiative will solidify transport and trade bridges between India and the EU. Recall that IMEC, unveiled during New Delhi’s G20 Summit in 2023, is a multifaceted 6,000-km project weaving sea lanes, railways, digital infrastructure, and clean energy corridors.
Commenting on the development, APSEZ CEO Ashwani Gupta emphasized India’s pioneering role. He forecasted a massive surge in trade post the India-EU FTA finalization. ‘Our Hazira and Mundra ports have paved a smooth trail for IMEC’s early and central segments,’ Gupta explained.
By partnering with Marseille, APSEZ has sealed the corridor’s end-to-end chain. This union promises faster flows of data and cargo, enhancing economic collaboration and supply chain robustness across nations.
Boosted by PM Modi’s hailed India-EU FTA—the ‘Mother of All Trade’—this pact was sealed amid President Macron’s India visit, signaling robust Indo-French strategic bonds.
Hervé Martel, Marseille’s CEO, welcomed the alliance at IMEC’s decisive juncture. Positioned as bookends of the corridor, India and Marseille ports must lead its buildout and operationalization. ‘We’ll integrate stakeholder ports, championing agile, flexible, and eco-friendly inter-regional links,’ Martel committed.
