India's coal output crosses 1.04 billion tonnes, SEC L leads

For the second consecutive year, India’s total coal production has topped the 1 billion‑tonne mark. The Ministry of Coal reported a provisional figure of 1.04 billion tonnes for FY 2025‑26, underscoring the sector’s continuing expansion.

Approximately 73 percent of the country’s electricity generation still relies on coal, making the sector a cornerstone of national energy security. SEC L’s contribution of 17 percent to this total places it at the heart of India’s power‑generation ecosystem.

SEC L now supplies coal to 13 states, leveraging three mega‑mines – Gevra, Kusmunda and Dipka – whose combined capacity of 185 million tonnes makes the region known as India’s “powerhouse.” This expansive reach helps meet the country’s growing demand for reliable electricity.
