Improved Collaboration Among Ministries Key to Faster Road Infrastructure

Speaking at the launch of the Chintan Shivir 2026 – National Conclave on Highway Infrastructure, Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted that the speed of road‑building depends heavily on how well the Union, states and execution agencies work together. He noted that the conclave serves as a common forum where officials can discuss field‑level challenges, share practical fixes and align priorities. Successful state‑level systems, such as streamlined land‑acquisition processes and rapid utility clearances, were cited as models that can be rolled out across the country. The minister emphasized that every project’s Detailed Project Report must be prepared with meticulous surveys, precise alignment mapping, clear timelines for land acquisition, utility relocation strategies and timely statutory approvals. Early‑stage thoroughness, he said, is the most effective tool against project slippage and budget overruns. Safety features, too, must be incorporated from the design stage, with accident‑prone spots identified and mitigated before construction begins. Sessions at the conclave covered implementation hurdles, best‑practice sharing and scalable solutions, encouraging the adoption of cutting‑edge technology, innovative building methods and low‑cost, long‑lasting materials. Gadkari urged states and agencies to disseminate their innovations, arguing that collective learning will raise construction quality and cut both building and maintenance costs, moving India faster toward a globally competitive road network.
