Hybrid Annuity Model Tunnel Project Links Vasant Kunj with Dwarka Expressway

In a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the cabinet gave the green light to a hybrid‑annuity tunnel that will join Vasant Kunj’s Nelson Mandela Marg with the Dwarka Expressway. The six‑lane, 8.1 km twin‑tube tunnel is slated for construction under the HAM financing framework, with an estimated outlay of ₹6,969.67 crore. Its underground design keeps the surface road network largely untouched, safeguarding the South Ridge Forest where a 1.98 km stretch will run below the terrain. The main carriageway, along with approach ramps and elevated sections, will streamline traffic from Gurugram, IGI Airport and Dwarka toward South Delhi. An elevated corridor linking NH‑AI, EMS and Mahipalpur will interlace with Barapulla Elevated Road, boosting accessibility for commuters from East Delhi, Ghaziabad and Noida. Additional provisions include a 1.8 km elevated road on Nelson Mandela Marg, a new flyover from Chhatarpur to Mahipalpur, and an elevated U‑turn to ease right‑turn movements.
