Guwahati to Get Taj, Gateway, Ginger Hotels in Adani-IHCL Deal
Guwahati, October 30: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that Guwahati will host hotels from three of India's prominent hospitality brands, Taj, Gateway and Ginger. The hotels will be established under a fresh partnership between Adani Airports and the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL).
Sarma described the investment as a clear indication of Assam's growing economic capacity and rising investor confidence. Posting on the social media platform X, he remarked that big brands move to places where big opportunities exist, and that such opportunities are becoming increasingly visible in Assam.
He said the hotel projects will form part of a hospitality initiative being developed between Adani Airports and IHCL. According to the Chief Minister, the presence of these renowned hotel brands will reinforce Guwahati's role as an emerging aviation and commercial centre in northeast India.
The Chief Minister also said the investment mirrors rising air traffic, expanding tourism, a pickup in commercial activity and growing trust of private players in the state. He called it a further proof of investor confidence in Guwahati's increasing strategic relevance.
Sarma reiterated that the state government continues to work towards establishing Assam as the principal economic and connectivity hub of northeast India.
The development comes as air travel and basic infrastructure facilities are being expanded swiftly across Assam. Guwahati, home to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, is already considered the principal gateway to northeast India, linking the region with many major cities at home and overseas.
Experts believe that the entry of established hotel brands such as Taj, Gateway and Ginger will strengthen the city's residential and hospitality capacity. This could provide improved amenities for business travellers, tourists and transit passengers.
The project also signals that large corporate groups are steadily increasing their interest in Assam's tourism, hospitality and services sectors. Owing to its natural beauty, cultural legacy and strategic geography, the state is becoming an appealing destination for investors.
The Chief Minister stated that better air connectivity, stronger infrastructure and greater private sector involvement are helping Assam build its identity as a key economic centre in eastern and northeast India.
He added that an aviation-led development model will play a vital role in promoting tourism, generating jobs and creating new economic opportunities in the state.
