New Delhi’s power corridors echoed with cheers for Gujarat’s infrastructure as the Central Cabinet approved a key metro extension from GIFT City to Shahpur. Spanning 3.33 km with three elevated stations, this GMRC project costing ₹1,067.35 crore aims to be operational within four years.
Projections indicate robust usage: 23,702 daily riders by 2029, surging to 58,059 by 2041. The corridor will fortify ties between Ahmedabad and GIFT City, directly serving MNCs, universities, and business districts.
For the everyday traveler juggling work, education, and commerce, this means faster, reliable journeys. It promises superior network synergy and commuter amenities, redefining urban mobility.
Job creation is another highlight. Expect 1,000 positions during the build phase and 250 for ongoing operations. Spillover effects will employ even more indirectly, invigorating local economies.
Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMC), the 50:50 central-state JV, will spearhead execution. The broader Ahmedabad Metro network already spans 68.28 km with 53 stations in Phases 1 and 2, handling 1,60,000 daily users since their launches in 2022 and 2026.
As Gujarat races towards becoming an economic powerhouse, this metro link cements its role as a connectivity champion, blending efficiency with opportunity for millions.
