Government to buy land directly, aims to boost manufacturing and revenue

West Bengal’s administration has formalised a direct‑purchase land policy aimed at accelerating the establishment of new factories across the state. The scheme mirrors a previous arrangement in international border zones where land was acquired for security fencing.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari explained that the move is intended to prevent the kind of land‑related agitation seen in Singur and Nandigram, assuring investors that plot acquisition will be swift and transparent.

He stressed that a predictable legal environment, coupled with a crackdown on corrupt practices, is vital for drawing capital. The CM noted that the state’s debt servicing costs consume roughly ₹1 lakh crore annually, underscoring the need for higher fiscal receipts from industrial growth.

According to the leader, expanding the manufacturing base will create employment, increase the state’s revenue stream and reinforce West Bengal’s position as a premier investment destination.
