Gold Gains Slightly, Silver Breaks 2.4 Lakh Mark
Mumbai, 27 August – Thursday’s session saw a modest uplift in metal prices on the Multi Commodity Exchange. Gold’s October 2026 contract opened at ₹1,60,499 per 10 g, a gain of ₹836 over the previous close of ₹1,59,663. By 9:45 a.m., the price climbed to ₹1,60,131, up 0.29%, with intra‑day lows of ₹1,59,954 and highs of ₹1,60,898.
Silver’s September 2026 futures started at ₹2,42,999 per kg, rising ₹3,361 from the last settlement. Early trading saw a pull‑back, and the metal was quoted at ₹2,40,561, a 0.39% increase. Its day’s range was ₹2,40,429 to ₹2,42,999.
Experts attribute the movement to persistently high U.S. inflation, which remains above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target, leaving the door open for more rate hikes. Low bond yields are likely to keep gold’s price movement confined.
Internationally, gold was up 0.52% at $4,678 per ounce while silver jumped 1.41% to $68.98 per ounce. In the past month, gold has returned about 15% and silver about 17.5% in dollar terms. Over the last 12 months, gold’s gain topped 36% and silver’s more than 76%.
